5-DAY COURSE SCHEDULE

DAY 1. - An Introduction to Becoming a Successful English Drama Teacher
Your first English lesson can be a scary experience, for your students and for you! Hitting the ground running by creating a strong first impression sends the right messages about trust, confidence, friendliness, and professionalism.
That’s why Day 1 explores the qualities of a good communicator, including:

Day 2. Language Games and Drama Techniques
Every child is naturally curious. It drives them to learn, explore, and experiment, which is why kids are ideal language learners.
But children also have short attention spans. To overcome their difficulties with focus, Miranda will help you structure your lessons and manage your class in ways that help your students grow their interpersonal and emotional skills. You’ll learn multisensory approaches such as:

DAY 3. Storytelling, Puppets & Music
On Day 3, we’ll develop storytelling techniques such as effective vocal techniques, expression, and dramatization. We’ll also study storyboards, story boxes, sensory bags, and the art of teaching using Kamishibai Theatre.
Moreover, we’ll explore puppetry, which is particularly engaging for young children. It brings your stories to life and maintains your students’ engagement and enjoyment. You’ll learn everything you need to know about:
Because music is such a powerful learning tool, we’ll also delve deeper into the power of song as a teaching technique by examining:

DAY 4. Staging a play
Taking part in a theatrical performance can be positive and rewarding for young language students. Drama encourages children to express themselves freely without feeling judged. It’s a great way to boost confidence and team-building skills.
But “performance” doesn’t have to mean polished or spectacularly impressive. Simple and practical shows work too! That’s why today focuses on ways to make your class theatre performances or sketches simple, professional, and rewarding. Our topics will include:

DAY 5. Organising your own English Drama Courses
Take your English language teaching to the next level by starting an after-school program, but first, you’ll need to anticipate the common pitfalls of running an English Drama course. Topics will include:
And as a finishing touch to the course, we have
A STORYTELLING Practice & Review Session
Whether you’re new to teaching or have been doing it for years, this practice lesson and helpful critique will allow you to test your ideas and newfound skills.
It feels good to overcome nerves and enjoy successes, which is why this safe environment is the perfect place to test your teaching mojo before venturing back out into the world.

Who Particiaptes ?

Our training course paticipants are a diverse group of individuals from every corner of the world and all walks of life and experiences. They share one overarching goal: to make a difference in the lives of young language learners. Some paticipants have no English language teaching experience but still share similar attributes, such as having a full understanding of the English language and a love of working with children. These pariticipants understand the value of using drama to develop language abilities in children and are fully committed to making a difference.
Since 2017, hundreds of teachers from across the globe have attended Kids English Theatre© teacher training courses. Our teacher "family" have come from France, Spain, Bulgaria, Greece, Poland, Tunisia, Bosnia, China, Taiwan, Israel, Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Russia, Slovenia, India, Philippines, Australia, USA, South Africa, UK, Switzerland, Slovakia, Chile, Uruguay, Armenia, and Germany – and the numbers grow after each cycle.
Bootcamp Coach
Miranda Flynn Legge is an English through Drama expert and the founder of The Kids English Theatre Method©.
Miranda is a British actor and graduate of the prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she won a scholarship and was trained by prominent international directors and mentors including the world’s foremost voice coach, Patsy Rodenburg. She also shared studies with fellow actors Joseph Fiennes, Damien Lewis, Ewen McGregor, and Daniel Craig.
In 1995, Miranda emigrated to Italy and co-founded Catalyst Theatre Company in Florence. She also won a Prince's Trust award that same year to develop her work at an international level with Catalyst.
Furthermore Miranda is an accredited English language teacher with a CELTA Certificate from Cambridge University and has worked extensively teaching thousands of children of all ages and abilities.
With over 25 years’ experience working as a professional actor, English language teacher, and drama coach, Miranda has seen first-hand the real advantages that theatre techniques can offer English language learners.
In 2004, she created “Teatro Inglese Per Bambini©”, a unique English and theatre after-school program for children ages 4 to 10 based in Florence, Italy. Miranda established the first ever Mummy & Me & SuperStar groups in Italy to adopt the Kids English Theatre Method© .

"I believe that if a child’s first encounter with English is theatrical, active and fun, they will love language learning forever. This belief has been consolidated over the years by the parents and teachers that share with us how their children’s experience in our courses encourages them to be more expressive and confident communicating in English."
The Kids English Theatre Teacher Training Academy was founded in 2017. Since then, hundreds of language teachers from around the globe have completed K.E.T. Live & Online training courses.
Miranda's experience in teaching children using the Kids English Theatre Method© has shown her how children learn fastest and what they find most enjoyable.
All her drama activities, chants, role-plays, and stories have been researched and developed over the years. She constantly devises new activities to accompany the lessons, concocting new language games and elaborating comedy skits, puppet plays and chants.
Most importantly, all her exercises have been successfully tried and tested in the classroom. That’s why she can help you save time in structuring your lessons and guide you to develop ideas that will make your lessons creative and engaging straight away.
Miranda also participates in national and international conferences and university seminars for nursery and primary school educators, where she coaches others on how to apply theatre techniques to teaching English.
Who is the Course Not For?
This course is NOT for you:
If you’re looking for a traditional textbook-based learning experience.
This is not a chalk-and-talk course. It does not include text manuals or slide presentations.
Instead, it offers an active learning approach.
Course topics are supported by walk-through practical demonstrations with Miranda
We want to increase your learning power by showing (and involving) you in exactly WHAT and HOW to deliver each activity, step-by-step, so you’re clear and super-confident when reproducing them in your own classes.
If you can’t dedicate your time and commitment:
The 5-Day Drama Bootcamp is designed to deliver life-long teaching strategies, but it takes commitment to learn them.
Miranda will guide and support you throughout the course but a key part of your theatrical journey is to take action, work as a team and put the techniques into practice.
Ready to delve into a new theatrical adventure?
The total course duration is 5-Days.

Student Spotlight Stories

I have been teaching English to young learners since 2014 in Rome. I decided to do the training programme because I felt, being completely self-taught, a bit lonely in my field and I definitely needed a boost of energy and ideas.
I decided to join the K.E.T. Training Programme as it seemed like how Miranda taught was exactly my style of teaching. It was like I had gaps in my understanding of this profession I love to do and I felt like I needed to join the pieces together to become a better teacher.
My biggest problem was the organisation of the content of the classes, looking at the big picture and organising a plan for the year for each different age group and class. Continuation and repetition is important for young learners, so instead of jumping from one category to another (colours, numbers, food, furniture etc.) , giving the lessons a theme and a path to follow helped me tremendously.
One of the most handy skills I have learnt from Miranda which I didn’t have before I attended the programme is definitely the puppet and story-telling techniques which I have fully incorporated into my classes.
Laura Leigh Sampedro (Fun in English)

Before taking part in the course, I had taught ESL and EFL to young learners for some years. However, I felt something was missing. Besides, there was something I didn't like in the way language schools or some suggested lesson plans encouraged us, teachers, to do in the classroom, and I was looking for answers and new ideas.
It wasn't easy to engage all learners. I tried to do so by changing activities and trying to please all learning styles. But it wasn't enough. I wanted to become a better teacher, I wanted to help children learn more, and I wanted to have "magical" lessons.
I loved the 5-day course in all parts.
If I had to choose, I would say that storytelling and the music & performance modules were mesmerising to me.
However, the last module about managing the courses and shows was essential to understand better how to create my product and try to sell it.
They have given me the chance to show my potential as a teacher and make children smile and have fun.
Even and especially during the Covid19 lockdown, I think all skills that I learnt gave me an extra push because I immediately offered online sessions. I tried to add an element of surprise in our online sessions, too. I tried to use both physical props, music and sounds to engage learners and offer a multi-sensorial lesson. And it worked!
Children and parents enjoyed it, and I made my best to give learners a set routine and a happy and fun moment.

My name is Abir, I am Tunisian. After I graduated Art university I started working in a private language school for adults.
I really loved teaching and my students always said that I was a good teacher but I wasn't happy, I wanted to do something different but I wasn't sure what.
I had some trouble in my job, I couldn't get along with some colleagues so I quit my job.
One day I decided to launch my own language school. I thought that once I started, I would reach my goal and I would be happy but no, my situation got worse, my thoughts were scattered.
I tried to do a lot of research on how to teach with your way, I wasn't sure about what I was doing, I was improvising
Thanks to your (5-day) course I’ve become more confident, organised and I know what I’m doing.
Drama skills did not only change my way of teaching but also my way I see my future. I have discovered my talent for storytelling which I want to develop.
Your teaching way, your ideas, your generosity, your great empathy and your beautiful smile, made me believe in fulfilling my dream-
After I came back, I’ve had many offers from many places in Tunisia ( I even had an offer to teach in a place 300 kilometres far from where I live and another place that is 65 kms away)
I believe I have great potential to be a good kids English theatre in Tunisia

To follow your course was professionally (I say it without exaggeration,) one of the best decisions of my life.
I landed in a fresh and full of enthusiasm environment and meeting other freelancers involved in this job gave me new energies. I am still in touch with the other girls and we exchange advice, suggestions, ideas, doubts.
We support each other on professional issues and sometimes on private ones. In short, we have become girlfriends!
(The 5-day) course has helped me organize that scrappy and vast baggage of information and activities accumulated over the years and gave me a method that has allowed me to free myself from manual schemes giving me much more confidence.
I had a wonderful experience on the island of Procida in a public school where I received many compliments for my personality and the appeal of my courses on the kids. They called me again for this year.
Naples is a wonderful but difficult city speaking about jobs and career but here is my point of view: I take the pros and cons choosing to reinvent myself and be constantly updated. Thanks to the success of my last year's course, they have also offered me a project of bilingualism and storytelling in the school where I currently work.
So I would say that the course was great to me!!!
Thanks because with your charm and enthusiasm you were a great source of inspiration to me.
