Bring Magic to Teaching Children English

I have a gymnast friend who teaches very young athletes. She’s great – really passionate about her work, boundless amount of energy and kids adore her. Not surprisingly her courses are packed with mini jumping gymnasts. 💪🤸‍♀️🤸‍♂️

I asked her the other day how she built up such a following, especially competing against bigger or more well-known gym groups.  She told me that for a long while she was in a slump. She had very few students and parents were critical and doubtful about her abilities because of that fact. 😵😥At one point she wanted to stop altogether before deciding to enrol in a circus course.🎪

Curious, I asked what a circus course had to do with gymnastics.
She told me that learning how to juggle turned her career around. 🤹‍♀️
Although she found juggling very challenging and mathematical, she said that by learning how to juggle first with scarves, then with balls, hoops and batons she eventually brought her newly found skills to her young gymnasts who absolutely loved them. 😍😍Word soon got out that she was a rhythmic baton expert and in no time her classes quickly grew from strength to strength. 💪💪

You may now be thinking…. teaching children, a second language has nothing to do with gymnastics and juggling batons!

You’re right but just like my friend – I see many independent teachers finding themselves in need of fresh ideas to help their courses grow and stand out from the rest. Me included!

Maybe juggling isn’t your thing but offering your students something original and unique will undoubtedly surprise and ignite their passion for learning.

I personally don’t juggle but a few years ago an amazing nun, from a monastery in Florence, taught me a couple of magic tricks 🌟💫which I use in my language classes even today and the kids love them!❤️🧡💙
Are magic tricks part of the language learning curriculum? No, of course not!🇬🇧🇬🇧
Can magic tricks make a difference? You bet!
Why?
Because we’re so much more than 👩‍🏫language teachers……we’re what children will love (or hate) about learning English.
And it’s the “magic” 🌟💫(in whatever form) that makes a positive impact and touches young minds

So, lights up, curtains open and let the magic begin!!!! 🎪🤹‍♀️🎭🌟💫

Be theatrical!😁
