ENGLISH DRAMA GAME OF THE WEEK – Rooms of the House

ENGLISH DRAMA GAME OF THE WEEK
Introducing young learners to the Rooms of the House can be a tricky topic.
Children often get the rooms and pronunciation all mixed-up and I don’t blame them – I would too!
Bathroom – Bedroom
Dining room- Sitting room …..arghhh!!!😫😱
Here’s a surprisingly simple MIME game to help children learn and memorise new vocabulary in just 8 mins!
The secret is to associate a specific physical gesture to each room.

For example:
➡️Kitchen – (mime cooking)
➡️Bathroom – (mime brushing your teeth)
➡️Bedroom – (mime going to sleep)
➡️Dining room – (mime eating and drinking)
➡️Living room – (mime using a remote control to zap the t.v channels)
➡️Garden – (mime skipping/playing football etc)
➡️Garage – (mime driving a car in, stopping and closing the garage door)
➡️My home – (mime the shape of a house and put your hand on your heart)

You can also reinforce the vocab by showing a flashcard of the room as you mime the action.
After a few practices have the children seated in a circle and ask one child to come to the front of the class. Show him/her a flashcard of a room which they must mime and the rest of the class must guess.
(For older children, split the group into 2 teams and see which team can guess the room first)
Great fun!
It’s a simple theatrical approach to teaching English to children of any age or level and keeping them focused and motivated. (No drilling involved! 😆) It also works particularly well introducing 🦉animals, 🌦️weather, 😍emotions and 🏃‍♀️verb actions

Enjoy and ….be theatrical!
