Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear… English Drama Game

Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear… English Drama Game

This afternoon I’m teaching a new (mixed level) group of 7-8 year- olds.🇬🇧🇬🇧 Some have already participated in my Mummy & Me courses and are therefore more confident speakers while others are completely new to Drama and English and are a bit apprehensive about what to expect (quite understandably so).

If you are starting with a new or mixed-level-group I recommend choosing drama activities that stimulate verbal/physical communication but at the same time never embarrass children or make them feel pressured or judged.

It’s also important never to insist that children join-in on a drama game as some children prefer to “observe” first – which is fine (remember, they are still learning from watching others doing).

Here’s an example of a game I posted last year……

🐻🐻Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear What’s my name?🐻🐻

This simple and fun drama game encourages children to focus their energies, interpret different voices and practice new language. I’ve played it successfully both with young and older children. Great if you’re looking for a cool-down concentration circle activity.

1) Sit the children in a circle

2) Have one child wear a blindfold and a pair of teddy bear ears (for extra fun)

3) Choose a child to sit in front of the blindfolded child and ask “Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, what’s my name?”. He/she must try and disguise their voice by speaking in high or low-pitched tones. (this always makes children laugh and helps them feel less shy about speaking in front of an audience)

4) The blindfolded child must try to guess and name who is speaking.

Note: If children are not familiar with each other’s names, have them simply guess if it’s a boy or girl speaking. (not as easy as it sounds)

Hope you enjoy playing this one

🎭This drama game and many others will be developed and practiced in the next Masterclass in Florence🎭
